Abstract
Objective: To compare the success rate of dacryocystorhinostomy with and without posterior mucosal flap in fistulous dacryocystitis.
Methodology: This cross-sectional study was carried out in the Institute of Ophthalmology, Liaquat University Hospital, Jamshoro, from November 2019 to Dec 2020. Two External DCR techniques; using mucosal flaps dividing the patients into two groups Group-A (both flaps) with 16 patients and Group B (a single flap), having 17 patients were performed. Periodic follow-ups were taken after surgery on one, the 3rd and the 6thmonth. We analyzed intraoperative and postoperative outcomes and success rate.
Results: Out of 33 patients, 71% were female and 29% male. Mean age of patients in Group-A was 44.187±4.65 and in group B was 44.941±5.33 years. The intra-operative course was uneventful in 79% of cases. Both Group had relatively comparative results with Epiphora in 3 patients with a success rate of 81% and 76% in group A and group B, respectively.
Conclusion: We found that (both flap) anterior and posterior vs only anterior (single flap) had very similar outcomes concerning the success rate. However, the operation time was longer in Group-A (both flaps).

Key words: Fistulous dacryocystitis, external DCR double flap, single flap, epiphora, lacrimal patency.
