Elevated CRP level in metabolic syndrome

Abstract
Objective: To determine frequency of elevated CRP in metabolic syndrome.
Methodology: This observational cross-sectional study was done at Department of Medicine, Services Institute of Medical Sciences, Lahore from May 2019 to January 2020. Two hundred patients of metabolic syndrome were enrolled. A detailed history and examination were done and CRP was measured in all patients. CRP >3 mg/l was considered elevated. All data were analyzed using SPSS 20.
Results: Mean age was 39+9.45 years with male predominance 115 (57.5%). Diabetes mellitus was present in 123 (61.3%) and 147 (73.5%) were hypertensive. Obesity was present in 109 (54.5%). Mean serum triglycerides level was 217+9.03 mg/dl and were raised in 161 (80.5%). Mean serum HDL-C level was 24.3+3.61 mg/dl and was reduced in 152 (76.0%). Mean CRP level was 3.2+2.17 mg/l and elevated CRP was noted in 103 (51.5%).
Conclusion: More than half of the patients of metabolic syndrome in the present study had an elevated CRP.
