Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the causes and various factors, responsible for non-functioning kidneys of conventional nephrectomies.
Methodology: This retrospective study was conducted of 1500 benign kidney diseases from January to December 2018 at urology department CMCTH/SMBBMU Larkana. Data collected included age, sex, affected side, clinical presentation and routine investigation performed like Blood CP, ESR, Blood urea, Serum creatinine, X-Ray IVP and MAG-3 Renal scanning for proper diagnosis in all cases.
Results: The mean age of patients was 25.2±15.25 years and mean duration of stone disease was 14.7±9.98 months. Out of 1500 cases, we performed 395 (26.33%) nephrectomies. The main cause of nephrectomies in 365 (92.40%) patients was renal and ureteric stone while in 30(7.59%) nephrectomies cause was chronic pyelonephritis (small non-functioning kidneys) and neglected ureteropelvic junction obstruction.
Conclusion: Higher rate of nephrectomy (26.33% out of 1500 cases) with benign kidney diseases can be minimized by the arranging stone camps and refreshing courses for Hakims, general practitioners, proper referral, improving infra-structure at taluka and district level.

Key words: Non-functioning kidney, audit, causes and Nephrectomy.
