Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the knowledge, attitude and practices toward pharmacovigilance and unfavorable drug reaction monitoring in post graduates of a teaching hospital.
Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted at Dow University of Health Sciences from March to May 2019. Convenient sampling method was used. Sample size was calculated by RAO SOFT with 5 percent error and 90 percent confidence interval with estimated population size of 20,000. (raosoft.com/samplesize.html). We included 267 post graduate residents of clinical sciences regardless of specialty and year of training.
Results: Out of 267, 117 (43.8%) heard the term pharmacovigilance and 138 (58.4%) accurately define the term. Only 87 (32%) knew the existence of pharmacovigilance center in Pakistan, while 98 (36.7%) correctly knew the international center for monitoring of drug adverse effect. We found that 209 (78.3%) did not ever see adverse drug reaction monitoring form and 260 (97.4%) claimed that they haven’t received any official training on ADR monitoring.
Conclusion: The post graduate resident had positive attitude toward pharmacovigilance but poor practices and knowledge. There is demanding need to create awareness and to educate post graduate resident as they are the future health professional.

Key words: Adverse drug reaction, ADR, Pharmacovigilence, KAP.
