Abstract
Objective: To compare the health risk classification of BMI and WC matrix with WHtR, among healthy young adults.
Methodology: This cross-sectional study was carried out in Physiology department of CMH Multan Institute of Medical Sciences. Anthropometric measurements of height, weight, and waist circumference were taken by trained personnel, as per guidelines from WHO MONICA study. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.
Results: Logistic regression analysis indicated that gender and family history of hypertension contributed insignificantly towards predicting hypertension risk. Whereas, risk stratification models of “BMI” alone, BMI and WC “matrix” and “WHtR” significantly predicted cardiovascular risk of hypertension, correctly classifying 65.6%, 66.7% and 66.8% participants, respectively.
Conclusion: Waist to height ratio can predict the early risk of hypertension similar to that of BMI and WC combined, among healthy young adults.

Key words: Hypertension, ROC curve, risk factors, epidemiology.
