Evaluating hand hygiene by nurses' midwives to prevent and control infection in Al Najaf Ashraf City Hospitals, Iraq

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate nurses' midwives’ practice toward hand hygiene to prevent and control infection.
Methodology: An evaluation of nurses’ midwives’ practice regarding hand hygiene in Al Najaf Ashraf City Hospitals was done using a descriptive cross-sectional approach. The study was carried out from November 1st, 2021, and March 13th, 2022. A questionnaire was used for data collection, which were analyzed using the 25th version of the SPSS.
Results: Most of the nurses’ midwives' were those with ages ranging between 20-30 years (62%); those who were in secondary midwifery school (60%); those who lived in urban areas (91%) and those who were married (68%). Majority of nurses’ midwives exhibited moderate level regarding hand hygiene, some items exhibited poor results.
Conclusion: Nurses midwives had a poor level of knowledge about the hand hygiene related to prevent and infection control.
