Pathology teaching methodology - Are students satisfied?

Abstract
Objective: To assess the perception of undergraduate medical students towards Pathology subject.
Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted from August-September 2023 on 3rd year medical students of public and private sector medical colleges of Punjab. A questionnaire was shared with students via Google forms. Data analysis was done using SPSS 23.
Results: Majority of the students considered pathology an interesting subject. They agreed that pathology is helping them clinically & were satisfied with the content and delivery pace of the lectures. The majority (80%) preferred that there should be integration of Pathology with clinical subjects. Private sector medical students were comparatively more satisfied with their present teaching methodologies. The most effective way of assessment was considered written test. Public sector medical students preferred the friendly attitude of teachers, in contrast private sector students wanted their teachers to have formal attitude towards them.
Conclusion: Majority of the students were satisfied by the present teaching methodology adopted in their respective colleges. Students had the opinion that case-based learning would lead them to have a better understanding of the subject. The written assessment method was most preferred by students. Most students from private sector wanted formal attitude of teachers while majority of students from the public sector responded that casual and friendly attitude of the teachers towards students had a good impact on teaching and learning process.
