Abstract
Objective: To identify smoking behavior, its correlation with blood pressure, and correlation factors in blood pressure of teenage smoker.
Methodology: This correlational descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 108 teenage smokers at five public senior high school in Bima (grade 10-11, aged 15-17 years old). We used simple random sampling and self-report smoking behavior and blood pressure measurement. Blood pressure measurement was taken in a sitting and resting position 2 times.
Results: Out of 108 students, 93 (86.1%) were active smokers in 3 months, 18 (16.7%) started smoking at <10 years age, 58 (53.7%) had family that smokes. Blood pressure profile showed that 71 (65.7%) had normal blood pressure, 28 (26% ) elevated blood pressure, and 9 (8.3%) had hypertension grade 1 and grade 2. The logistic regression (p<0.05) showed that there were three significant factors associated with blood pressure profile namely, smoking age (OR=2.12; 95% CI: 0.48-9.36), smoking habit after getting up from the bed (OR=1.50; 95% CI: 0.67-3.35) and smoking everyday (OR=0.70; CI 95 %: 0.30-1.62).
Conclusion: The study revealed a trend toward the increase in blood pressur of the smoking students. The smoking age was the most significant factor. Health education is required to prevent smoking in students at an early age with the family involvement.

Key words: Smoking behavior, blood pressure, teenager smoking.
