Prevalence of depression among infertile women in Madinah: A cross-sectional study

Abstract
Objective: To determine the prevalence of depression among infertile women in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, and identify associated factors.
Methodology: This cross-sectional study included 270 infertile women aged 15-49 years. Depression symptoms were assessed using Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21). Sociodemographic data and infertility-related information were collected through structured surveys.
Results: Depression was present in 59.63% of participants: 18.52% mild, 30.74% moderate, and 10.37% severe. Higher education levels (β = 0.143, p=0.009) and longer infertility duration (β = 0.320, p<0.001) were significantly associated with increased depression scores. Family income and residency area also showed significant correlations with depression levels.
Conclusion: Depression is prevalent among infertile women in Madinah, with education level and infertility duration being key predictive factors. These findings highlight the need for mental health screening and support services in infertility care.
