Abstract
Objective: To identify cognitive impairment among the elderly population in Indonesia.
Methodology: This cross-sectional study included 126 old adults using convenience sampling. Cognitive function was measured using the Indonesian Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) version. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential (Chi-square test) statistics.
Results: We found that the mean total score of the MMSE test was 24.99±3.53 (range 10-30). Study found that 123 (78.8%) individuals had normal cognitive function, while 33 (21.2%) scored within the cognitive impairment range. Sociodemographic factors that were significantly related to cognitive function were age (p=0.001), education level (p=0.027), and history of disease (p=0.001).
Conclusion: Most of the elderly in the local community in this study had a normal cognitive function. Cognitive impairment screening and interventions for managing cognitive impairment in the elderly are recommended.

Key words: Cognitive function, elderly, Indonesia.
