Frequency and measurements of torus palatinus and mandibularis in patients visiting Prosthodontics Department of Isra Dental College, Hyderabad, Pakistan

Abstract
Objective: To determine the frequency and measurements of torus palatinus and mandibularis in partially and completely edentulous patients visiting at prosthodontics department of Isra Dental College, Hyderabad.
Methodology: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted at Isra Dental College, Hyderabad from June 2017 to May 2018 and included 165 patients. All were requested to fill a questionnaire. Using sterilized examination instruments like mouth mirror and probe all patients were examined for torus palatinus and torus mandibularis. After examination, impressions were taken for size of torus palatinus and location of torus mandibularis. Statistical analysis of data was performed using SPSS 21.
Results: Out of 165 cases, 102 were torus mandibularis and 63 torus palatinus. More females had tori as compared to males. According to the size of the torus palatinus, out of 63 patients’ maximum cases were found medium in size and least were large in size. According to location of the torus mandibularis, out of 102 patient’s maximum cases were found in middle area and minimum were in posterior area.
Conclusion: Maximum number of patients had torus mandibularis as compared to the torus palatinus. Medium size of torus palatinus was more commonly assessed and torus mandibularis located in middle premolar area in most of the cases.
