Abstract
Objective: To find the prevalence of frozen shoulder in diabetic patients and its relation to age, gender and duration of diabetes.
Methodology: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in physiotherapy department of Victoria Hospital Bahawalpur using convenient sampling technique. It included 104 diagnosed diabetic patients of both genders in age range of 30-65 years. Apley’s scratch test was used for the assessment of frozen shoulder, and goniometer was used to measure the range of motion (ROM). A self-made questionnaire was used. The data were analyzed by SPSS version 21.0.
Results: Out of 104 participants, 68 (65.4%) were married, 22 (21.2%) were housewives and 8 (7.7%) were teachers. Among participants, 58 (55.8%) had family history of diabetes. We found that 45 (43%) had the restricted ROM as measured using Goniometer. A significant association was found with age, gender (females) and long duration of diabetes.
Conclusion: Frozen shoulder is significantly more prevalent in diabetic patients of older age and females but has also significant association with the duration of Diabetes.
