Abstract
Objective: To analyze the clinical spectrum and surgical outcome of patients diagnosed with intraconal cavernous hemangioma.
Methodology: A 5-years retrospective analysis was carried out at Eye unit 3, Mayo hospital Lahore for a period of 6 months. Patients of any age and gender with a clinical and radiological diagnosis of intraconal cavernous hemangioma were included. Data were retrieved from patient files and orbit record images. Outcomes were measured as improvements in best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), proptosis, and complete tumor removal. Data were analyzed using SPSS 26.
Results: Out of 35 orbital cavernous hemangiomas, 25 (71.4%) were intraconal. Mean age was 37.06±2.13 years with a female-to-male ratio of 1.2:1. Proptosis (76%), visual deterioration (60%), and diplopia (56%) were common symptoms. Lateral orbitotomy was performed in 60%, medial in 20%, and anterior in 20%. Complete tumor removal was achieved in 88%, with recurrence in one patient (4%). Postoperative improvements in BCVA and proptosis were statistically significant (p≤0.05).
Conclusion: This study highlights the demographic and clinical profile of intraconal cavernous haemangiomas. High success rates of surgical excision support surgery as the primary treatment.
