Analysis of Phytochemicals in different parts of Phyllanthus reticulatus medicinal plants

Abstract
Objective: To analyze medicinal plant Phyllanthus reticulatus for phytochemicals in various parts of plant.
Methodology: Different parts of Phyallanthus reticulatus such as roots, stems, leaves, flowers and seeds were collected dried and extracted in different solvents (water, ethanol and methanol) for screening phytochemicals. The phytochemical quantitative analysis included phenolic compounds, flavonoids, tannin, alkaloids, glucoside, steroid, saponin, protein and carbohydrates. Statistical analysis was done on SPSS version 22 by keeping p<0.05 as level of significance.
Results: The highest percentage of moisture and ash contents were present in roots (48.0% and 16.0%, respectively). The methanol extract of leaves, flowers and seeds showed an appreciable amount of different compounds. The highest mean concentration of protein was found in methanol extracts of all parts of plant. In leaves, the highest concentration of flavonoids, alkaloids, protein and phenolic compounds were noted as compared to other parts of plant. Comparatively, the methanol yielded the highest concentration of most of the analyzed biological compounds, except carbohydrates as compared to ethanol, and water in the case of Phyallanthus reticulatus. Water extract of roots showed a high concentration of flavonoids.
Conclusion: Methanol extracts contained majority of the biological compounds in the plant. In seeds we found, higher concentration of analyzed compounds. All biological compounds were present in plants.
