Frequency of ischemic as compare to hemorrhagic stroke and quality of life after receiving cardiac rehabilitation Phase I and II

Abstract
Objective: To determine the frequency of ischemic as compare to hemorrhagic stroke after receiving cardiac rehabilitation Phase I and II and to determine the quality of life in stroke patients.
Methodology: This comparative cross-sectional study was conducted in Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC), Rawalpindi on 50 post op cardiac patients. Patients who had stroke after Post op cardiac surgeries with age of 40 to 60 years were included in the study. Patients with stroke without history of cardiac surgeries or cardiac disease were excluded. Demographics were recorded through a semi structured questionnaire. Quality of life was measured by CDC HRQOL-14 including 20 close ended questions regarding frequency of stroke after cardiac surgery participation in phase I and phase II cardiac rehabilitation.
Results: Out of 50 patients, 17(34%) had hemorrhagic stroke and 33(66%) ischemic stroke. The onset of stroke was <3 months in 6(12%) patients, while 44(88%) had stroke between 3 months to 1 year. CDC HRQOL-14 showed those who had stroke after receiving phase I and II were 21(42%) fairly with good condition while patients who received only phase I were 29 (58%) had poor health status.
Conclusion: The frequency of ischemic stroke is higher in patients receiving cardiac rehab Phase I with poor health status as compared to those who received both phases I and II.
