Objective assessment of patients of DVT on the basis of signs, symptoms and risk factors

Abstract
Objective: To study the association of different risk factors and co-morbid conditions like diabetes, hypertension, stroke, malignancy in the formation of DVT.
Methodology: This prospective cross-sectional study was conducted in Department of Medicine, Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad, Pakistan from December 2019 to April 2020. A sample of 110 patients was collected. Data were analyzed by SPSS 16.
Results: Out of 110 participants, 36 were male and 74 females. We found that 31% had right leg and 56% had left leg DVT. 29% of the patients had travel history and 63% were bedridden. Among all, 49% had SOB, 83% had abnormal pulse rate, 33% had abnormal temperature and 5% had pulmonary embolism as a complication of DVT. More than 90% had legs swelling, raised D-dimers and positive Doppler scan. 84% patients recovered after conservative management.
Conclusion: DVT is more common in patients with associated risk factors and co-morbid conditions. Among females, its incidence is more in pregnancy and post-partum. Most common site of DVT was left leg.
