Abstract
Objective: To identify the influence of multiplying effect of anxiety and VSM in menopausal females.
Methodology: This study included females with the cardinal VMS of menopause between 30-70 years. CSSI and GAD 7 scale were calculated.
Results: We had 346 patients, 89 dropped out. We had 14, 125,162 and 47 patients in 4th to 7th decade of age. Of these, 127 patients scored low, 162 patients had medium score and 57patients scored high on GAD scale. Among patients with low CSSI score, majority had severe anxiety, 63%, 46% and 57% in 4th, 5th and 6th decade, respectively followed by moderate GAD score, 27%, 30%, 27% and 15%, respectively. Majority of females in 7th decade showed no or mild anxiety, 42% each while none had severe anxiety. Among patients with medium CSSI score, majority fell in the moderate (38% each) and severe (20 and 11%) group in the 5th and 6th decade. None from 4th and 7th decade had severe anxiety. All 3 of the 4th decade group had moderate while 3/4th had mild and 1/4th had moderate anxiety. There were no patients with high CSSI score in 4th decade while all 3 from 7th decade had moderate anxiety. Around 2/3rd of patients in 5th and 6th decade had severe anxiety while 1/3rd had moderate anxiety.
Conclusion: Incidence of anxiety was much higher in perimenopausal women than in general population. Here is need to evaluate GAD that seriously impairs the quality of life in them.

Key words: Peri-menopausal syndromes, vasomotor symptoms, hot flushes. GAD, anxiety.
