Impact of a community-based family planning education program on married women's knowledge of contraception methods

Abstract
Objective: To assess the impact of a family planning education program on the knowledge of family planning methods among married women in Sudan.
Methodology: This quasi-experimental study included 456 married women. Data were collected using a questionnaire consisting of 30 questions covering different aspects of family planning. Participants were divided into experimental and control groups, and pre-and post-tests were conducted to determine the effect of the educational program.
Results: The study found that overall knowledge of family planning methods significantly increased from 40% to 85% after educational program (p=0.5). There was significant increase of knowledge of participants regarding meaning of family planning and characteristics of natural methods, hormonal methods, and mechanical methods.
Conclusion: A family planning education program significantly increases married women's knowledge of family planning methods in Sudan. It is recommended to increase awareness of mothers regarding family planning by different means of mass of social media like TV and Radio.
