Abstract
Objective: To determine the outcome in terms of wound healing and recurrence rate after application of crystallized phenol with and without curettage of pilonidal sinus.
Methodology: This comparative study with a total of 80 patients was conducted in Surgical Ward of Chaudhary Muhammad Akram Teaching & Research Hospital, Azra Naheed Medical College Lahore Pakistan from May 1, 2023 to April 31, 2024. Patients in the Group A were treated with crystallized phenol with curettage and in Group B with crystallized phenol without curettage.
Result: In Group A, the past surgical history was found in 7 patients and in Group B, the past surgical history was noted in 1 patient. No recurrence was found in either group after 3 and 6 months after phenol treatment (p=0.00). After 6 weeks, all patients were healed in both groups and majority of the patients were healed in 3rd week after the phenol treatment (p=0.00)
Conclusion: This study concluded that both groups crystallized Phenol with curettage and without curettage showed equally effective findings in terms of wound healing and recurrence rate.

Key words: Recurrence rate, wound healing, crystallized phenol, pilonidal sinus, perianal disease.
